5 Moving Superstitious to Know Before You Relocate

1. Leave Your Old Broom Behind

It is a common superstition that when you move, you should buy a new broom and leave your old one at your old residence. According to Feng Shui, the old broom will carry dirt from your previous residence, which represents all of your life’s negative facets.

To avoid this, put your old broom away. No one wants to bring negativity into their new home

2. Boil Milk

As a common Hindu custom, boiling milk in your new oven and letting it boil over the top is a good way to bring good fortune into your new home. This is believed to bring positive energy and money and represents wealth and prosperity.

3. Burn Sage

Burning sage is a common way to rid yourself of negative energy. But have you ever considered doing this when you move into a new house to get rid of any negative energy that has previously resided there?

This superstition is supposed to protect your home from intruders, but it has also been shown to cut airborne bacteria by 94%. Therefore, burning sage in your new home will surely have some benefits, whether you are superstitious or not.

4. Paint Your Porch Ceiling Blue

Even though there are many color trends in homes, painting the porch ceiling blue is actually a relatively recent home superstition that has existed for a long time. The haint blue color is believed to ward off spirits because it resembles water, which they are frightened to cross.

Haint is the Gulla Geechee pronunciation of “haunt,” or spirit, incapable of crossing water. Therefore, to keep suspicious and mischievous spirits out of your house, the blue hue deceives them into believing they must cross water, which deters them from entering.

5. Spread Out Salt

Like many new home superstitions, it is believed that placing salt on the threshold and in the doorways of your new house will ward off evil spirits. After a day, you can vacuum this to remove the spirits and clean up the mess that has been created.

What Our Clients Say

We love Pink Zebra Movers! They were thoughtful, friendly and professional. They showed they cared about our furniture. As a Realtor, I have heard plenty of horror stories. Pink Zebra made the whole process very stress-free. I will only recommend them to my clients from now on.

We love Pink Zebra moving company! They handled a very stressful move for us with ease. We had several moves going on at the same time all going to different locations. The whole crew was so nice and they were so knowledgeabl of how to take extra care of some of my antique pieces.

All the guys were excellent to work with. They were respectful, strong, and went the extra mile for my difficult move into a 4 level historic home…with winding staircases…in the rain…Thorough and truly seemed to care. Great team!

Allen

These guys are very skilled at what they do! I sat and spoke with the foreman (I think moving crews have foremen?) at the CoolBox storage facility in Liberty Park. I watched them very quickly and efficiently load antique vending machines and the largest furniture I've ever seen. I was amazed.
