Moving can be a stressful, long process. You have to filter your belongings, downsize things you no longer want to keep, find the ideal movers in Columbus, and sit back as we do our job—well, not quite like that!
Even if you can rest while movers are movers, there are certain things you should do before we arrive to ensure the day goes as it should. This will help prevent accidents, shorten moving times, and ensure the relocation runs stress-free. Here are your responsibilities during the move and what you can do before we arrive!

Make Moving Day Easier by Doing These Five Things Before the Movers Arrive
1. Be Present
On moving day, you must be at home. If you cannot be there for whatever reason, find someone who can, such as a friend or relative. We will require someone’s presence throughout the day to respond to any inquiries from the movers, point out specific items, or just handle any issue that requires your attention.
2. Give Parking Instructions
Once we arrive, we’ll need somewhere to pack the van. If you reside in or are relocating to a single-family home, we can pull into your driveway. However, before moving day, find out if your HOA community has any laws about where and how a moving van can park, and let us know.
Similarly, if you are relocating to or from an apartment, you should ask the apartment managers where the moving van can park and find out any city rules. You should also be outside when we arrive.
3. Clear the Path
Move any obstacles, like garden hoses or piles of leaves, to clear the path the movers will use before a move. Walk the path the movers will use from all potential exits, such as the front door, garage door, and backyard gate, to ensure there are no objects in the way.
Even during the day, these pathways should remain free because the movers may not always be able to see the distance ahead when carrying large items.
4. Give Us a Tour
Meet the movers at the door and show them around the house when they arrive. You know your possessions the best, so let us know what you believe will be especially difficult to move!
Identify any potential hazards, show them all the exits so they know how to navigate while moving items, and let them know which restroom is available for refreshments and water.
If there are any objects you don’t want your movers to pack, let them know. We recommend setting up a “no-pack zone” where all these items can be left separately.
5. Get Ready for a Long Day
Moving is a long process. It’s better to avoid rushing things out and damaging your precious objects than to be careful but take longer—at least, that’s what we believe.
While it may not take the entire day, prepare to be on site. If you can, take the day off from work, buy water bottles, and charge your phone fully.
